Finding the right free walk for you

Follow our routes with sat nav: All you need to do is choose a walk, download the details, and you are all set. If you have a smartphone you can download the free GPX file and follow the route on your mobile device, complete with voice prompts in much the same way that satnav works in a car.
Choose a walk by distance or elevation - We have a page on Hertfordshire Walker that shows the location all our free walks and lists them based on their distance and total ascent. So you can find a walks that meets your needs.
Use one of our interactive maps to find a walk - We also have two interactive maps. One shows the starting points for every free walk based on distance and the other shows how much walking uphill is involved. Just pick a location in the county that you want to explore then keep zooming in on either of the maps to find the start point.
Once you find the start, click on the green walking icon to reveal a link to the free directions, maps and GPS Navigation.
Flat walks for buggies and wheelchairs - There is a page listing flat walks for those who have buggies or wheelchairs.
Walks with pubs or cafes - We have a page that lists all the pubs and cafes along the way, so you can pick an outlet and then download a free walk that passes close by the place you fancy stopping for refreshments.
Scroll through more than 290 free walks - We have a page that lists all our walks so you can scroll down and choose a free walk in the distance category you prefer.
Join an official Hertfordshire walking group - Explore Hertfordshire's beauty on your own, with a friend, or perhaps join a walking group. We have a lists of all the official Hertfordshire walking groups that welcome new members.
Share your photos and comments - If you enjoy the walks you can leave a comment at the foot of the walk page or on our friendly members-only Hertfordshire Walker Facebook group.
Check our walking tips - We also have a page of walking tips for those who are new to walking in the Hertfordshire countryside.
