This walk explores the countryside to the south-east of Tewin. The route drops down to the River Mimram then continues through Panshanger Park before looping back to Tewin over undulating countryside with wide open views. There is a pub and a cafe close to the start/finish point.

1: With your back to The Rose & Crown (location - https://w3w.co/armed.spot.target) turn right then head SSE for 145m passing Tewin village green on the left and continuing until you reach a footpath on the right (location - https://w3w.co/brick.flat.cigar), see image below.

3: Cross Tewin Boat 1 (byway open to all traffic) then continue on Tewin footpath 17, now heading WSW, for 465m until you reach a T-junction (location - https://w3w.co/talked.door.error), see image below.

4: Turn left on Tewin bridleway 7 then head SE for 170m until you reach Churchfield Road (location - https://w3w.co/focus.fees.lives), see image below.

5: Cross Churchfield Road then continue heading SE, now on Tewin footpath 18. Follow the footpath through Westley Wood for 140m until you reach a junction (location - https://w3w.co/lived.august.wipes), see image below.

6: Turn right on Tewin restricted byway 5 then head S for 160m until you reach Tewinbury Farm (location - https://w3w.co/dock.grabs.nasal). The image below shows how the right-of-way weaves through the farm as set out in the directions below.

7: Turn left then head ESE through Tewinbury Farm for 60m until the byway turns right then heads SSW for 65m before reaching a footpath on the left just before the River Mimram (location - https://w3w.co/ideal.minus.still).

8: Turn left on Tewin footpath 14 then head E for 135m where you head SE, now on Tewin footpath 19 (location - https://w3w.co/cakes.legs.dash).

9: Follow Tewin footpath 19 SE for 455m until you reach Archers Green Lane (location - https://w3w.co/rungs.prom.hoot), see image below.

10: Turn right then head SE along Archers Green Lane for 445m. This is a quiet but narrow lane without a pedestrian pavement but with passing places and sections of grass verge where you can step to one side if traffic approaches. Continue until you reach a bridge over the River Mimram (location - https://w3w.co/cheek.milk.banana), see image below.

12: Turn left then walk along the grass verge alongside Hertford Road heading ESE. After 130m you will see a layby on the other side of the road. 14: Cross the track then continue heading SSE through woodland, now on Hertingfordbury footpath 25. Soon after entering the woodland after 20m you will reach a fork. Continue heading SSE, see image below.

36: Turn left on Tewin footpath 23. There is a sign at this gate asking dog owners to keep their pets on a lead. Head NE for 140m with the hedgerow on the right and livestock field on the left until you reach woodland (location - https://w3w.co/noon.haven.study).

  1. August 2024 - think this might be one of our favourite walks so far. Fantastic views and Panshanger Park was a real treat to discover. There were nettles at points but the paths were clear at all points, including across the crop fields. Thank you for the recommendation!

  2. Another great walk - thank you. We completed this on Thursday in the late summer sunshine. We liked the way it connected Tewin with Panshanger, both areas we have walked in previousl,y but this took us down new paths with different views. Clear instructions and photos to guide.

  3. Completed this walk this morning . The views immediately leaving Tewin , then following the Mimram through Panshanger park are lovely . Particularly liked the path from the B1000 down to Bacon farm . All paths accessible and visible though the fields . Another corker David ..
