The route between points 17 & 18 |
This is our second walk from Bramfield, this time exploring the countryside N and W of the village, passing through the lovely Bramfield Woods then returning via Tewin following bridleways and footpaths over rolling open countryside with views on all sides.
The walk starts and finishes at
The Grandison then passes
The Plume of Feathers and
The Rose & Crown in Tewin.
Getting there
There are bus stops near the start of the walk (location -
https://w3w.co/sorry.over.crops), which are served by the number 379 bus. You can check bus times at
Intalink.
Fly through preview of walk
If you want to check what sort of landscape you will be crossing before you set off on this walk you can view a short 3D video of the route below. It's created using the free version of
Relive.
After heavy rain there can be a particularly muddy section of this route south of point 6. To avoid this, particularly if you are following this route in the winter, you might want to try the following detour which avoids the worst of the mud by diverting along residential roads.
* At point 6 turn right on Firs Walk then head WNW for 85m until you reach a left turn (location - https://w3w.co/entertainer.ranges.actual). Turn left, still on Firs Walk, then head SSW for 250m then follow the road round to the right as it then heads WSW for 240m to a T-junction (location - https://w3w.co/joins.pint.hint). Turn left on a road called East Riding then head S for 210m until you reach a bend (location - https://w3w.co/ideas.sound.making). At the bend turn left on Tewin footpath 33 then head SW for 460m to rejoin the route. See the detour on the map below. The orange line is the detour.

Lovely walk. Very nice mix of woodland and farm land. Flat with good paths. If there is one note of caution I would give fellow walkers, pay attention to point 6 above as it’s very easy to miss that turn and path.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed it. Yes, I hope the pictures help for point 6. Thanks for the feedback.
DeleteI have added some more text and images with orange arrows to points 5 & 6 to try to explain that part a bit better. Please take a look and let me know what you think.

Hi yesterday I walked this walk got soaked but Hey Ho only water. Thanks for putting the arrows on instructions as I think I would have walked along drive footpath , may be looking at houses as opposed to foot path . I must admit I cut the corner at point 4 and walked through wood as a couple of vans drivers were exchanging details at junction . Along the track huge tree fallen , yes have notified ROW.. Thanks another great walk. .IR.
ReplyDeleteHi Ian, yes, I think the arrows have proved helpful to others. I tend to add them where a junction requires a bit more work to describe the correct route. Sorry you got a soaking! And thanks for reporting the fallen tree. Good work.

We successfully completed this walk on Friday 19 August in hot sunny weather, and we enjoyed it very much, especially the shaded parts at the beginning. We parked on Bury Lane near The Grandison pub. It's worth noting that there is off-street parking available on Winding Shott about 100m north of the junction with Bury Lane on the walk route.
ReplyDeleteHi Richard, glad you enjoyed it. We really like that walk and return to it frequently. Thanks for the feedback. Dave
DeleteAnother walk to be recommended- I agree with other positive comments above. The GPX file was so accurate 👏 I parked in the village hall car park just along the lane from the pub 😊
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed it Angela. Thanks for posting an update and some lovely photos on our Facebook group. :-)
