Walk 187: Ickleford North Loop

6.3 miles (10.1 km) with 43m of total ascent

Cross the footbridge then head NNW across the field

This is our third walk from Ickleford, this time exploring the countryside to the NW of the village following well-defined footpaths and bridleways over rolling countryside with excellent views. There is one short stretch along a main road, but it is along a pedestrian footpath and takes about five minutes. The walk starts outside The Plume of Feathers pub. There is a second pub, The Old George, a short detour from the start/finish point.

Getting there

There are bus stops close to the start/finish point on Arlesley Road (location - https://w3w.co/lobbed.plums.erupt), which are served by the number 9A and 9C buses. There are also bus stops on Bedford Road in Ickleford (location - https://w3w.co/carpentry.immune.playful) which are served by the number 74 and 89 buses. That bus stop is a 760m walk WSW along Turnpike Lane from the start/finish point. You can check bus times at Intalink.

  1. Another brilliant walk ideal for today being overcast and warm. Lovely to walk through fields of wheat etc. Harvesting was in full swing + lots of Red Kites around today.Thank You. .IR.

  2. Did this walk today in the lovely autumn sunshine. Really enjoyed the open views across the countryside. Hard to see the path across the ploughed fields in places - must be easier when you are walking through the crops. Great bench in between points 9 and 10 if I remember it rightly to sit and have an apple and a drink and admire the views without another person in sight. Shame there wasnt a pub to stop part of the way round but we made it to the end and had a drink in the garden of the The Old George listening to the jazz band who were playing outside. Another great walk. Thanks again for posting it.

    1. Hi, if a public right of way has been blocked, please report it to Hertfordshire County Council's Rights of Way (ROW) team. They are usually prompt in responding. The link is below. I also have this link on the site to encourage all walkers to report any blocked paths. If we all report such incidents they will get dealt with. Meanwhile I will add a warning to the top of the walk. Thanks for letting me know. Here is the link for you to report the blockage.
