4.7 miles (7.6 km) with 102m of total ascent

This walk follows a request from a Hertfordshire Walker user called Robert who leads a walking group. He's used our walks before and wanted a shorter version of Walk 34, that starts and finishes at The Five Horseshoes in Little Berkhamsted. So we have merged parts of several existing walks on our site. If you have any requests for new routes to be created please let us know using the site's contact form.

Getting there

There are bus stops close to The Five Horseshoes pub/restaurant at the start of the walk (location - https://w3w.co/keen.book.moons), which are served by the number 380 bus. You can check bus times at Intalink.

  1. We were going to do this walk yesterday but changed out minds because Little Berkhampstead was going to be busy with a Jubilee event but the What3Words link seemed to be to the wrong place - in Oxford. Just thought Id let you know so you can change it otherwise that's a very long walk! Look forward to doing the walk another time.

    2. Hi Ian, all fixed. The bridleway markers were fine, but I have now edited my directions to make it clearer where bridleway 25 becomes bridleway 26. Thanks for pointing it out.

  3. Did this walk to day. Lovely walk easy to follow. We did see the goats and a very friendly alpaca who was sharing the field.
Fantastic sighting of a buzzard sitting on the fence near the goats. Also saw a Red Kite. Paths were very dry underfoot. Finished off with lunch and a beer at the Five Horse shoes. This was a great walk for our bouncy lab as a lot of the route were enclosed bridal paths. There were a few cows in the field at direction16 but the sign on the gate into the field did warn to us to keep dogs on lead.
