We have archived this walk while we find a way of avoiding two sections that follow or cross busy roads. We will update the walk when we have had a chance to test a new route. Please try another of our 280+ routes in the meantime. Sorry for any inconvenience this might cause.
We did this walk today. It was perfectly mapped out by Hertfordshire Walker as always, and we really appreciate all the work that goes into that, but this route is not as good as some of the others on the site in our opinion. The noise of the A1(M) was a bit annoying (exactly as described to be fair), and it is not the best of the countryside that Hertfordshire has to offer. Plus the dash across the A602 dual carriageway felt a bit hairy. I don't think we would do this one again when we are so spoilt for choice with all the other lovely walks on here.
Hi James, agreed. There is a lot of urban walking and noisy roads. And that crossing of the A602 is not great. I wonder whether it is worth rerouting. I might do that while we see if we can find a better way of creating a loop round Little Wymondley. I will archive it while we figure out a solution. Thanks for the feedback. David
I admire your commitment David. I did not mean for you to remove this route from the site as you had described it accurately, so this was not meant as a criticism of your great work. But if it's possible to do a loop that stays to the West of the A1(M) then I think that would be excellent
Hi James, We drove along the A602 recently and it was much busier than when we tested and published the walk more than two years ago, so I had already been thinking of rerouting it. Your feedback just reminded me that it should be done. I really value the feedback shared here on the site and on our Hertfordshire Walker Facebook group. I have already figured out a new route that avoids that crossing and the long stretch in NE Stevenage close to the A1(M). We just need to get out and walk it before publishing. Thanks again for your feedback. Appreciated. David
