3.4 miles (5.46 km) with 87m total ascent
This is a pleasant walk taking in three trails: the Hitchwood Trail, parts of the Hertfordshire Way, and the North Chiltern Trail. It leads down shady footpaths and over fields with open views. Two-thirds of the way round there is the possibility of a short detour to visit
The Strathmore Arms, famous for its real ale. The walk can be enjoyed in about an hour and a half taken at a leisurely pace.

Fantastic display of bluebells in Hitchwoood on April 19. Lovely wild flower meadow between 9 and 10. Great walk
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip, we must nip up there and check them out. David
DeleteWe did this walk today and it was fab! The first part was in the lovely woods and underfoot no issues. Once you get into the fields some are a bit muddy as you would expect but nothing too bad yet. A very varied and great walk, The church is also huge and interesting. Thank you again for a great walk.
ReplyDeleteHi Laura, so glad you enjoyed it. We love that walk too. Glad it wasn't too muddy to spoil your day out. Dave
DeleteA lovely walk with a beautiful display of wild orchids between 9 & 10. I started from the church at St Pauls Walden and walked clockwise instead of anti clockwise. Hitchwood is a magical place & this route is similar to one I’ve done with my dad over the years but with some new paths to enjoy. Thanks, Andy B
ReplyDeleteHi Andy, thanks for the feedback. I will have to try it anti clockwise. We are also fond of Hitchwood. David
