The Cole Green Way |
A short circular walk which starts along
Cole Green Way, which is the route of the former
Hertford to Luton and Dunstable branch line via
Welwyn Junction. The walk starts and finishes at what was
Cole Green Station and goes through woodland, along lanes and back following the route of the track to the car park. There is a pub,
The Cowper Arms, close to the start/finish point.

Did this walk again today and discovered it's quite a good one to do if you're trying to avoid mud in the winter. There are some good surfaced paths and no boggy fields to cross and we didnt really come across any really thick wellington boot type of mud:)
ReplyDeleteBrilliant, thanks for the tip. My wife did six miles in wellies today and she felt it. We tested and walked what was going to be Walk 168. It was great apart from having to cross a busy main road. Then we applied our "would you recommend this to someone with kids and a dog" and the answer was no. So, despite it going past five pubs, one we have tried twice and really like, we are not going to add it.

That's a shame but at least both of you enjoyed it!
ReplyDeleteDid this 'short walk' today (1 April '24) but extended it quite a bit by walking from home on Panshanger & by changing the end to walk along The Old Coach Rd to enjoy the unexpected sunny day back home rather than to the end point along Cole Green Way,( mostly under trees
ReplyDeleteNice easy to follow walk, some muddy patches but easily 'get round-able'.
We really enjoyed this walk as its really local but we saw areas we've never walked before. We plan on pinching bits of it as a variation to our 'quick summer eve walk'
That extension sounds good. Glad you enjoyed the walk and that the mud didn't spoil it. By the way, if you haven't already done so please consider joining our friendly Hertfordshire Walker Facebook group where fellow walkers are sharing their walking experiences and photos. David
