1: Park in the Broxbourne Nature Reserve Car Park west (location - https://w3w.co/roof.coherent.ground) grid reference TL 32410 07094. Walk up to the route map to the E of the car park , turn left then follow the green signs with the black butterflies clockwise.
2: After 1.4km walking through woodland cross Pembridge Lane (location - https://w3w.co/beyond.hidden.pine), take the footpath opposite, Brickendon Liberty footpath 15, then head SE or 290m until you reach a right turn (location - https://w3w.co/able.hugs.dairy). Turn right on Brickendon Liberty footpath 25 for 250m before emerging on White Stubbs Lane (location - https://w3w.co/crest.slap.with).
3: Walk down the lane directly opposite for 15m before taking the footpath on your left and following the signs with the green arrow and black butterfly. The butterfly pictured on the signs is a White Admiral, and we were lucky to see one on the afternoon we visited. The path weaves round left then right and then heads S and W for 500m before it meets West End Road (location - https://w3w.co/gentle.ants.rather).
4: Cross the road and head back into the woods walking W for 870m until you meet Brickendon Liberty footpath 29 where you turn left and drop down through Wormley Wood. Keep to the waymarked path for 3.4km as the path heads S, W, and N back up White Stubbs Lane on Brickendon Liberty footpath 23 (location - https://w3w.co/shaky.nods.poppy).
5: Cross the lane and head down a shaded bridleway, Bayford bridleway 7, for 770m as it goes between two fields and then swings round to emerge on Pembridge Lane (location https://w3w.co/garden.angle.vanish).
6: Turn right down the lane looking out for a path on your left after 70m (location - https://w3w.co/when.lovely.pumps). Take this path and when you come to a junction in the path turn right and walk back to the car park.
For accurate directions it's probably best to print out the map of Broxbourne Nature Reserve, which is excellent.
Hi David,I have downloaded the GPX file for this walk and my app is telling me it's 4.8 not 5.5 miles. Is it an error on your website?
